Just started prep. any tips?

🎯 Prep Strategy & Exam UpdatesJust started CAT prep. For VARC, I’ve got Gejo’s material from Telegram, for LRDI I’m following Elite Grid from Telegram, and for Quant I’m following Sarvesh K Verma’s book.
I can give around 8 hours daily to prep.
My current plan is:
* **August (next 10 days):** Cover a major chunk of the theory and syllabus.
* **September:** Focus on PYQs and learn from my mistakes.
* **October:** Mocks + practice, with revision wherever needed. Although, I don’t think CAT is really the kind of exam where traditional revision is that important.
* **November:** Mostly mocks and PYQs.
Would you suggest any changes to this plan, especially considering I have 8 hours a day? Any tips on how I should structure my preparation or prioritise the three sections?
Agree with everything in that case, except the October part, beta. The biggest challenges you will face are
1. Speed and Set Selection in LRDI
2. Accuracy in RCs
And you have not given any time to those three things in your plan anywhere due to the time crunch. I think they should be focused on in October. Mocks help you perfect strategy, speed development happens in practice. You will need to solve a lot of LR & Mixed sets for that (your pure DI might already be sorted)
For RCs, a lot of patient practice is needed.. more like just solving 2 RCs in a day but ensuring each option of each question is scrutinized thoroughly. Once again, you will need one month for that easily.
PS: Do not forget to dedicatedly work on set selection in LRDI. This is where most students fail. No matter how good you are at LRDI, there will be 1 or 2 sets in the exam which would be absolutely unsolvable in less than 30 minutes and if you end up picking them by mistake, you won't be able to score more than 80.
well.. you haven't given me the most important detail beta - what is your background? What are your strengths and weaknesses? Are you an engineer and are you comfortable with Maths? Also, how many books (not course books) have you read in the last couple of years?
2nd Gen IIT, 2024 passout. I’m comfortable with Maths, so I don’t expect Quant to be a major issue. English/VARC is definitely my weaker area. I’ve tried reading a couple of books over the past few years, but unfortunately haven’t completed any of them.
I haven’t attempted CAT before, so I’m still trying to get a sense of my actual strengths and weaknesses across the three sections.
